| | Description | Size | | Antique marriage sheet in a very fine but sturdy white linen. The large central embroidered monogram PH in plumetis and postpoint is interlaced, the initials symbolizing the union of the bride and groom. Each of these marriage sheets was the "chef d'oeuvre" of the attendant bride and not uncommonly took years to complete. A masterful plumetis and English style cutwork embroidery decorate the 36 in. return with sprays and garlands of flowers and a prominent, lacey crossed thread row of embroidery runs the length and width of the return border. Very likely this sheet was created to drape over the bed and fall to the floor (as opposed to being tucked under a mattress), exposing for all to admire its luxuriant hand work. Late 19th, early 20th c.. | Dimensions: 134 x 91in | | A splendour of embroidery and refinement this sheet in pure white linen baptiste is a beauty to behold! It features a central monogram DL in bourdon embroidery which is encircled by a lovely garland of Richelieu and English cutwork embroidered flowers. The entire width and 23 in. of the height of the return is decorated as well with trailing vines of cutwork leaves and flowers interspersed with a very fancy crossed drawn thread embroidery, and a delicate drawn thread row of windowpanes frames the entire return border. Late 19th, early 20th c. | Dimensions: 120in. x 91in. | | Loomed of an extremely fine and lightweight white linen, this lovely sheet was certainly intended for summer use and could very well have been created for a marriage trousseau. The skill of the embroideress is manifest in the fanciful sprays of plumetis flowers intermingled with Richelieu and English style cutwork embroidery throughout the entire length as well as 37 in. of the height of the return. A fancy plumetis monogram AD, accented with cutwork flowers, occupies a central position and a delicate hemstitch runs all along the return border. 19th c. . | Dimensions: 126 x 93in |
 | A central circular monogram CL is embroidered in bourdon, plumetis and post point in true art deco style beneath which lie two large bands of big embroidered polka dots with an inset of net lace in between featuring alternating flowers and butterflies. Two rows of drawn thread windowpanes frame the embroidered bands which, all together, make for an impressive display of embroidery! Mtis, the French word for blend (in this case linen/cotton) comes in varying grades of quality, but this one is superior with a large percentage of very high grade linen which gives to the sheet a slightly weighty but silken drape. Early 20th c. | Dimensions: 118 x 91.5in | | Remarkable for its age, this "dove grey" linen sheet was loomed of a very sturdy yet fine and silky linen which still retains its original unbleached color. In fact, I washed it for the first time just to freshen it up after its long period of storage. Over time and numerous washings it will turn to an ecru/white. A large central monogram CM in Richelieu cutwork, plumetis and post point embroidery shows off the handiwork of its embroideress and gives to this sheet a refined but understated elegance. An important drawn thread row of windowpanes runs the length of the return border. Hand hemmed. Impeccable new condition. Late 19th c | Dim:126 X 93 in. | | A very good example of a 19th c. sheet, this one is loomed of a heavy-weight but fine white linen with two large fancy monograms M and V in plumetis embroidery, one letter in each corner of the sheet in high relief. A centrally serged "invisible" seam, typical of these older linens, indicates that it was woven on looms too small to accomodate the size of a large bed and thus the two pieces were joined afterwards. Hand-hemmed. Mid-19th c. | 126 x 87in. | | This sheet is a testament to romance and elegance! Pure white in color and loomed of the finest quality of linen, it has an ample weight and a simply luxuriant drape, or "tomb." A river of embroidery comprised of four rows of windowpanes and one large and fancy central row with a lacy oval motif decorate the entire length of the return as well as an important height of 33in. Hand hemmed. Early 20th century. | 122 x 92in | | | |
